Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

At Water Gems we hate to see waste, and where possible, will always try to reuse and recycle materials already available on site.

What do you already have that could be reused and repurposed into something beautiful and functional without buying anything new?  Below are a few great projects where we reduced, reused and recycled.

Rebar Structure

In 2010, we built a fantastic show garden for Gardening Scotland which won a gold medal and Best in Show.

Our garden also proved of great interest to visitors to The Gardening Scotland show. So much so, that on the first day, the rebar structure was bought by a family for their Aviemore garden.  This was a fantastic outcome and meant that all of the effort and hard work that went into creating this structure, would be enjoyed for years to come and not just for the week of the show.

Pond Renovations

We carry out many renovations of existing ponds that have failed in some way or another. Whenever possible, we endeavour to carry out renovations reusing as much of the the existing pond structure and original materials as possible.

A great example of this type of renovation project can be seen below.

In 2020, we completed the renovation and rejuvenation of this Fife pond, using the original concrete shell of the existing pond. We first stripped back the original structure, and then diverted the inflow, which was bringing unwanted sediment into the pond. We then lined the pond, rebuilt the outflow, and constructed new aquatic beds. To bring new life and colour to the pond, we planted flag iris, bog beam, marsh marigold, water mint, water forget-me-not and water lilies.

Patio

We built this lovely Tree of Life patio using a mix of setts and paving stones, which the customer already had in their garden as well other surplus materials.

To create something stunning, by recycling and reusing waste materials already available on site, is a great example of the skills, understanding and knowledge demonstrated by our expert team.
