Pond Tips – A Tale of Three Creatures
The frog, the toad, and the goldfish.
There are probably more small ponds in Britain now than at any time in history. Modern liners mean that small garden ponds are easy to make. This is a godsend for goldfish and frogs. They love small ponds, and frog tadpoles thrive in the shallow warm water. Not so the prehistoric looking toad that prefers deeper water to drape it’s long necklaces of spawn over. Generally the three species don’t coincide but if they do and you clean their pond out, be warned, don’t put male frogs or toads in a container with goldfish. They will treat the goldfish like female amphibians, clamp on, and have to be prised off with considerable force. Nick.
