Large expanses of water can add significantly to the beauty of a landscape. The surface gives ever-changing reflections of sky, hills and trees. The water itself can become a focus for recreation, with swimming, fishing and boating all possible.
Jetties and decks are locations for socialising and for getting into or onto the water. Islands and beaches can be ideal destinations for picnics. The increased scale allows for large drifts of aquatic plants; expanses of water lilies, irises and wildflowers look stunning.
Pairs of swans often nest on islands and two of the lochans we have designed and built have been visited by ospreys!
