Water Gems was set up in 1993 by Nick Benge, who has a BSc Hons in Biological Sciences, specialising in Ecology, and a Masters degree in Aquaculture from the United States.

He currently has a staff of sixteen whose specialist skills include all aspects of water feature work as well as joinery, stonework, slabbing, electrical work and general landscaping techniques.
