Water GemsOur show garden for the Gardening Scotland show in 2004 featured strong colours and long straight cascades on three levels. Inspired by the courtyard tradition in Mexico, it also contained a central fountain by the Ratho Byres Forge and water level stepping stones.

Water Gems at Gardening ScotlandPlants included a range of Primulas, a Blechnum fern, a Rheum and lots of large emergent planting featuring Typha, Schoenoplectus, Cyperus, Scirpus and four types of Iris. On the water we used Albatross lilies, water hawthorn, Nuphar advena and the plant of the title, the water soldier.

Water Gems at Gardening ScotlandThe garden was very well received and was covered on the Beechgrove Garden and STV news as well as in The Herald and The Scotsman. The garden was awarded a silver gilt medal.
