About us

Water Gems (Alba) Ltd was founded in 1993 by Nick Benge. With an Honours degree in Biological Sciences specialising in Ecology and a Masters degree in Aquaculture, Nick has a passion for wildlife, ecology and environmental issues.

Nick is supported by a team whose qualifications combine academic foundations in biological sciences, ecology, aquaculture, geology and mechanical engineering with practical horticultural skills, as well as those of joinery, welding, electrics and stone-masonry.

In 2011 Robin Torrie took charge of the landscape section at Water Gems.  As landscape manager he combines his past experience in the industry with his excellent organisational skills to coordinate projects, provide costings and liaise with clients.  If you have a landscape or design project you would like to discuss, please contact us.

Water Gems also works with landscape architects and garden designers and, for many years, has worked closely with Carolyn Grohmann of Secret Gardens on garden projects. This has allowed Water Gems to provide a complete landscaping package of design, construction and planting.

With an abundance of on-the-ground experience and expertise, residential and commercial work is carried out throughout Scotland and the north of England.
